🏀 St. Mary’s U19 Boys’ Basketball: A Season of Triumph and Teamwork 🏆

The U19 Boys’s Basketball team went from strength to strength this year. Under the coaching of Mr. McEvoy & Ms Herbert the boys had success all throughout the season. Despite having to face their quarter final and semi-final within just days of each other, the team triumphed during their Christmas exams to secure their spot in the final. Facing Moyne Community School in Portlaoise on December 5th, the opposition showed the boys that they had stiff competition with a narrow lead at the end of the first quarter. St Mary’s kept them at bay during the second quarter with only 5 points scored by Moyne going into halftime. The team rallied together to score 12 points in the third quarter, leaving the score 27-24 to St Mary’s. Credit must be given to captain Callum Dunne for securing a beautiful buzzer beater at the end of that quarter from half court also. With some of our strong players being in foul trouble heading into the last quarter, the team showed tight defence and tidy offense to try to keep Moyne’s players at bay. After a tiring yet commendable performance, St. Mary’s were narrowly defeated in what was an exceptionally well-fought game.

Final congratulations to the team; Callum Dunne (C), Aaron Maguire & Cathal Nolan (VC), Rhys Bannon, Carl Kenny, Ben Sweeney Noonan, Josh Mangan, Mikojai Bober, Darragh Kilduff, Cian Cocoman, Rafaels Sunins, Luke O’Connell, Conor Carberry, Aaron Daly, Cormac Keyes, Jake Tracey & Conor O’Donoghue.
